JOB TITLE:  PARAPROFESSIONAL, SPECIAL EDUCATION, Mild/Moderate

Position is 28 hours per week

SUPERVISED BY:  Principal

 

DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES COORDINATED BY: Special Education Teacher 

SUPERVISES: NIA

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for supporting regular education and special education teachers by providing quality guidance and assistance to special education students in the classroom.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

       Frequency

1. Assist students in the classroom by taking notes, scribing and reading information out loud.

2. Assist students with seat work by reinforcing instruction, clarifying subject matter, etc.

3. Modify tests and assignments as needed.

4. Prepare study guides for quizzes and tests as needed.

D

5. Acquire a working knowledge of core academic subjects.

D

6. Serve as a liaison between students, administrators, regular education teachers, special education teachers.

D

7. Provide input on students' progress throughout the year.

8. Attend IBP meetings and/or provide feedback when requested.

9. Supervise and facilitate students' learning, organization skills and completion of assignments in learning labs.

 

10. Develop a working knowledge of students' individualized education plans (IEPs).

11. Perform duties include taking notes, scribing and reading information out loud; assisting students with seat work; modifying tests and assignments; serving as a liaison; providing input on students' progress.

13. Perform other duties as assigned, including clerical duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's degree or two-year college certificate required
  • Bachelor's degree or teacher license preferred
  • Experience working with children with special needs preferred
  • First Aid Class/ CPR & AED Certification Required (or obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Substitute Authorization Preferred
  • Effective time management due to time clock
