POSITION TITLE: Chief Operating Officer

 

 

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools

 

 

 

SUPERVISES: Facilities, Transportation, Safety and Security and Technology   

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Chief Operations Officer is responsible for overseeing, supporting and aligning critical system wide functions, policies, processes, and projects to create the conditions for addressing the District mission and vision; overall day-to-day operations, administration, coordination and evaluation of the short-and-long-range plans for improving districtwide services; direct and collaborate with other central office leaders to assist Superintendent in progress monitoring the District’s strategic direction and implementation of the plans to reach goals; serves as District leader in the absence of the Superintendent

·       Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives and

policies of the strategic plan; manage and promote facilities, transportation, safety and

security and technology departments to ensure alignment with District goals and community

needs.

·       Select, train, coach and evaluate personnel; plan, direct, coordinate assignments of personnel;

review and evaluate work; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; implement

discipline and termination procedures.

·       Keep abreast of developments in federal, state and privately sponsored projects/programs as

they relate to the districts operational practices.

·       Coordinate the district’s crisis response plan with all schools and corresponding agencies to

ensure compliance with the district’s strategic plan as well as state and federal regulations.

·       Coordinate with the Chief Financial Officer with regard to district housing efforts including

vendor negotiations, facilitate and implement the housing committee goals and objectives

and communicating policies and lottery information to staff.

 

·       Assist in the development of plans and specifications for major and minor capital construction

and renovation projects including all bond elections.

·       Assist and coordinate with the Chief Financial Officer the acquisition and development of land

including contract negotiations.

·       Manage and coordinate special projects and create systems that enhance operational

effectiveness of Summit School District

·       Coordinate communications, projects, construction activities, personnel and resources to

meet District needs; may serve as the District liaison with contractors, developers and other

construction related personnel as needed

·       Work productively as a team member with the Board of Education, District Leadership Team,

ATeam, teaching staff, support staff and SSD committees.

·       Collaborate with the Superintendent, Facilities and Transportation Departments with regard

to snow days operations.

·       Plan and conduct meetings, in-services and workshops for staff and community as needed;

attend meetings, district activities and training as assigned.

 

·       Oversee the annual operating budget for facilities, transportation, safety and security and

technology; develop a forecast of funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and

supplies; develop short and long-term capital budgets including equipment replacement

schedules and related projected costs, monitor and approve expenditures and implement

adjustments.

·       Participate as a District Leader on appropriate Boards, committees and work groups in the

community at large as appropriate.

·       Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.

·       Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

Qualifications:
  • MA degree preferred

  • Bachalors Degree required
  • Colorado Administrator License preferred 

  • Minimum of 3 years of school leadership experience is required, preferably experience as a school principal 

  • Strong planning, organization and project management skills, with the ability to identify numerous dependencies and develop comprehensive, technical and adaptive plans of action

  • Commitment to precision and detail orientation

  • Familiarity with modern and complex practices associated with federal, state and local regulations and accountability

  • Effective public speaking and communication skills
