JOB TITLE: Director of Equity 

 

SUPERVISED BY: Superintendent

 

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Lead the district’s efforts to conceptualize, define, assess, nurture and cultivate a culture of inclusion, equity, diversity and culturally sustaining practices (IEDC) into every core district function, ensuring that each scholar has full and equitable access and responsive supports to the district’s programs and resources; serve as a strong and vocal champion for IEDC across all programs associated with the district; work in close collaboration with district staff, scholars, families and community  members as true partners to develop an overarching IEDC vision and strategy for Summit School District (SSD) with the goal of supporting the district in fulfilling its service to our scholars and families.

Coordinates professional development activities for equity, diversity, and inclusion

 

Supports District and School Leaders in creating more equitable services, practices, and policies.

 

Reviews current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder the organizations’ equity goals.

 

Serves as a resource to other district staff and committees regarding equitable access and opportunities for all students. 

 

Partner with other administrators to recruit, welcome and retain faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds.

 

Work with the instructional leaders to ensure that the school’s curriculum reflects the diversity of our local and global communities.

 

Work with the communications office to publicize diversity-related events, educational opportunities, workshops, etc. for students, faculty, and parents.

 

Lead District efforts to implement Policy AF:  Just and Equitable Education, and the Equity Focus of the Strategic Plan.  

 

Partner with Summit County public and private entities to promote equitable opportunities in our communities.  

 

 

CONTACTS: Staff members, Board of Education, professional organizations and associations,  community agencies, general public, private schools, vendors, representatives of the County,  State and Federal government, media and other school districts. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Previous experience in an equity position
  • Deep knowledge in the creation of, implementation of, and adherence to federal and state laws and school district policies
  • Master’s degree or 5 years leading equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated facilitative leadership
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate, collaborate and problem solve with a wide variety of people and diverse perspectives in complex situations.
  • Strong background of managing and supporting complex change throughout a distributed system of different entities and teams
  • Deep understanding of the issues of race that impact students in schools every day

Hiring Range: $82,790 - 98,686

Work Calendar 251 days

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

For all positions, experience is determined by years of work in the same job title. Experience that is similar but not the same job may be calculated at a 3:1 credit for years of experience. Year of Experience shall be whole numbers and not partial years.
