General Description of the Role

Summit School District is seeking a part time or full-time TVI to be shared between SSD and Mountain BOCES. Teachers of the Visually Impaired travel throughout assigned member school districts to provide direct services to students ages 3 – 21 with visual impairments and/or blindness, to provide consultation services to classroom and resource teachers, and support to students’ parents.

 

Qualifications Required                                               

            Education:       Master’s degree

            Licensure:      Special Services Provider License:  Blind/Visually Impaired

                                     CDE Certificate of Braille Competency

 

Qualifications Preferred

            Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist License

  • Understanding of multiple physical and cognitive impairments
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment and assistive technology used with students with visual impairments
  • Proficiency in Braille instruction

 

Major Areas of Responsibility and Duties Specific to this Job

  • Conduct assessments to include functional vision and learning media requirements
  • Recommend and collaborate in appropriate specialized evaluations (low vision, orientation and mobility, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language, augmentative communication, vocational)
  • Develop and implement IEPs with goals and related services appropriate for vision impairments
  • Provide guidance and counseling to students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the community
  • Supervise Para-Educators assigned to students with visual impairments
  • Participate in school district’s Child Find program for students with identified visual impairments
  • Act as a vision consultant for nurses and other school staff regarding system-wide screening, materials, follow-up, referrals, and recommendations
  • Other duties as assigned

 

  • Hiring Range for positions $57,494 - $83,573 under SSP (****)

    The position is 185 Days

    For all positions, experience is determined by years of work in the same job title. Experience that is similar but not the same job may be calculated at a 3:1 credit for years of experience. Year of Experience shall be whole numbers and not partial years.
