Responsible for supporting the Library Media Center with processing and cataloging new acquisitions; checking books in/out; shelving books and materials; assisting patrons with research and use of Online Databases; library technology and with locating materials; performing clerical tasks; opening and organizing the library; inventorying and ordering supplies and materials; and completion of the annual inventory of the entire library collection. May also assist with training and monitoring Student Aides and daily announcements.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS:

1. Manage and maintain the library collection by processing and cataloging new acquisitions using existing MARC records or creating a new record and by adding identification, due date slip, barcode, spine label, label protector, and/or book cover. Using TLC software.

2. Perform continuous library collection management including checking books in and out,  shelving library materials, updating patron and material records, preparing materials for classroom use, inventorying materials, renewing periodical subscriptions, cleaning, delivering materials, and repairing equipment and materials.

3. Assist library patrons with information technology skills and finding and using printed and multi-media materials and equipment through the use of electronic catalogs, online databases, Internet, video distribution, and other

audio-visual equipment. Maintain technology equipment and make minor repairs as needed.

4. Assist students and staff in finding assigned academic and personal reading books including recommending reading materials based on patron interest and reading ability.

5. Perform clerical tasks including typing/preparing reports, bibliographies, school and library schedules, overdue lists, and other correspondence; making copies; and laminating items as needed including the creation of signage

for the Library Information Center using various desktop publishing programs.
6. Assume responsibility for the Library Media Center in the absence of the Library Information Specialist.

7. May train and supervise Student Aides.
8. Assist as needed with opening the Library Media Center in the morning for students and staff.

9. Oversee the general organization and attractiveness of the Library Media Center including display areas within and outside the center.
10. Set up and sometimes run audio-visual equipment for the school and after-school events.
11. Assist as needed with ordering supplies and materials by initiating purchase orders.
12. Assist as needed with Inventory and ordering office and book processing supplies and assist with set-up and operation of book fairs.
13. Inventory the entire Library Media Center collection including recording missing or lost books, flagging books/materials for disposal, etc.
14. Demonstrates the commitment to build and maintain a safe, fair, and respectful working and learning environment that honors the cultural diversity of students and staff.
15. Other duties as Assigned and effective time management due to the time clock 



QUALIFICATIONS:

 

A minimum of two years of study at an institution of higher education, an associate's degree, or the ability to pass a rigorous assessment that demonstrates the required knowledge and abilities

A minimum of one year and up to and including two years of experience in customer service, information or learning technologies, library management, cataloging, and/or secretarial skills

Knowledge of library procedures, MARC records, Dewey Decimal System, and library software preferred
Previous success experience working with children preferred

Ability to assist in troubleshoot technology issues with students and staff preferred

For all positions, experience is determined by years of work in the same job title. Experience that is similar but not the same job may be calculated at a 3:1 credit for years of experience. Year of Experience shall be whole numbers and not partial years.
